Contaminants
Sediment, bacteria, algae
WHAT HAPPENS HERE
Raw water is drawn from a surface water source (river, lake, or reservoir) or groundwater (well). Screens remove large debris โ leaves, fish, sticks โ before water enters the treatment train.
โก KEY EXAM POINTS
1
Bar screens remove objects >10mm
2
Fine screens (0.5โ6mm) remove smaller debris
3
Intake positioned to minimise algae and contamination
4
Flow monitoring begins at this point
๐ ONTARIO REGULATION
O. Reg. 170/03 requires continuous monitoring of raw water turbidity, pH, and temperature at the intake point.
